Genome Map Viewer (GMV) Tool

The Genome Map Viewer is a tool for comparing two or more genomes and displaying the results in the form of the concentric ring display of Moore et al (1995) and Gale and Devos (1998). This display shows the distribution of the linkage blocks within related species which have been proposed on the basis of homology and/or conservation of gene order with a model species. In cereals these blocks are based on rice and data for several species are available in the prototype comparative mapping database (protoComapDB). These blocks form an order within linkage groups (called chromosome blocks since they often represent a chromosome) that is specific to each species. Together a group of unordered chromosome blocks form a complete genome (called by us genome blocks for consistency) for the particular species. For further details consult the User's Guide to the GMV Tool.
